Mercy Medical Center is a 174-bed regional medical center and the only hospital in Douglas County. It serves more than 107,000 people. In 2026 the National Rural Health Association named it one of the top 20 rural and community hospitals in the United States.

As the area's sole hospital, Mercy gives residents broad exposure to inpatient and emergency medicine inside a rural, community-focused setting. Residents work with a wide range of specialists and have full inpatient and outpatient services, which is the right environment for full-spectrum family medicine.

Our residency is unopposed. Family medicine residents are the only residents at Mercy, so hands-on learning, procedures, patient care and direct work with attending physicians go to our residents. No one competes with another program for a learning opportunity.
